The JJQ on the outdoor stage at Avogadro's Number in September 2007
(left to right: Chuck Landgraf, Ken Wacker, Matthew Arau, Ron Holleman, Bob Montgomery)The JJQ was started in 2000 by trumpeter/flugelhornist Ron Holleman and drummer Chuck Landgraf. Its initial purpose was to demonstrate the various historical styles of jazz discussed in a jazz history course Ron Holleman was teaching, but the combination worked so well that the band lived and grew. The JJQ now plays regularly at restaurants, clubs, and other venues around the area (see Gigs for current info). Along the way the band has attracted a loyal following of appreciative fans. "This is the only group around here that consistently plays mainstream jazz," says one, "and besides, these guys are good!" The JJQ's personnel are all experienced jazz musicians; see Bios for more on their backgrounds. The music they play comes from the large mainstream jazz repertoire, from bop and cool to fusion; see the Music page for more on that. Want to hear them? Their first CD "Live & Straight Ahead" is available by mail (see the CDs page), at the Finest in Ft. Collins, and at all JJQ gigs. The Music page also has some brief samples, but live performances are so much better! Check the band's current appearance schedule on the Gigs page. Or better yet, save yourself the trouble and sign up for the JJQ mailing list; then you'll get handy e-mail reminders of when and where this great band will be playing. |
